Movie Review: Ice Princess [2005]

A very inspiring movie and not as cliché as the other follow-your-dream movies that has always been in the cinemas. Ice Princess tells us about a geek that used her brain in explaining the theories behind figure skating to achieve a scholarship from Harvard. Casey (Michelle Trachtenberg) faces lots of troubles and also great encounters from her rival-friend Gen (Hayden Panettiere) during her experiment to figure skate while using physics theories.

Both of them have something in common in which their mother’s wanted them to achieve the dreams they couldn’t reach. Casey’s mother, Joan (Joan Cusack) always wanted to be a Harvard student whereas Gen’s mother, Tina (Kim Cattrall) failed to achieve her dream in becoming a champion for the Olympic. They wanted their children to relive their dream without having their child’s consent but in the end they accepted their child’s choices to follow their own dreams.

As for Casey, she is beautiful, smart and also brilliant in figure skating had a tough time while deciding on the path she is going. From other’s supports she managed to be on the ice rink and finally got what she wanted. The story line is interesting with scientific features making the movie educational and fun at the same time. Teenagers would love to watch this movie since this is more to a career choosing movie. For adults, this movie might be good to be reflected when they have their own child.
